4 Signs You Need a Career Change

We all hope that we will stumble across our dream job once we finish education and that we will be set for life.

Unfortunately, the reality is often very different. Some people don’t realise what they want to do until they are 40-years-old. Remember, there is no time limit when it comes to changing your career, and this isn’t something that should frighten you either. It’s exciting! You have a chance to try something new and fall in love with going to work all over again. But first, you need to decide whether you are ready to move on. Here are some tell-tale signs that now is the right time for a career change:

  1. You feel uninspired – This is one of the most obvious signs that it is time for a career change. If the industry you are working in no longer inspires you, it could be time to move on. We are going to spend the majority of our lives working, so it’s important to find something that interests and motivates us. Thanks to technological advancements, there are so many new and exciting job opportunities that are cropping up all of the time. Have you considered drone training? That’s right; you can get paid to fly drones in the UK. Or, what about being a social media manager? You will now have an excuse to spend all day on Twitter or Facebook! The point is, you are bound to find something that really appeals to you, so don’t settle for less.
  2. You’re jealous of your friends’ jobs – Do you feel jealous towards the careers, jobs, or work cultures of family or friends? If so, this can be a key sign that you are ready for a change. Don’t simply try to cast your feelings aside. Instead, analyse why you feel this way. What is it about your friend’s job that appeals to you the most? What do you feel like you are missing? This will help you to determine the right route to go down when you make your career change.
  3. You are eternally bored and zapped of all energy – No one expects work to be thrilling each and every day. We all have those days when we feel unmotivated and lacking in energy. However, this should not be an everyday occurrence. If every task you are set makes you feel this way, you are ready for a shake-up. Perhaps it is a sign that you should be your own boss and run your own business? Maybe working for someone else simply isn’t cutting it anymore? Either way, it’s time to address what is really going on.
  4. Your self-esteem is suffering – If you have started to doubt yourself and the work that you produce, something needs to change. You should never stay in a job that makes you feel bad about yourself. If your job is having a negative impact on your confidence, get out while you can. Staying put can have a damaging impact on your long-term, emotional well-being. If you feel like there is no opportunity for growth, your suggestions aren’t being taken on board and, therefore, your confidence is decreasing by the minute. If this is the case, it’s time to search for new job opportunities stat.
