4 Things That Will Make You a Better Businesswoman

There are many amazing businesswomen who inspire us daily to do better.

Seeing them successfully navigate their careers and perform at the top of their game can be an important driver for us to strive for more. Successful businesswomen have many common traits that have got them where they are today. No matter what background or circumstances you’ve come from, and what you’ve faced to get where you are, these four things could help to make you become a better, more-confident businesswoman:

1. Believing in yourself

When you read the stories of successful businesswomen, they are often their own biggest champions. There’s this wonderfully positive energy about them that shows that failure is not even a consideration. Mary Kay, who founded Mary Kay Cosmetics, once said: “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can’t, you’re right!” Having that belief in yourself is important and will help you even when the going gets tough.

2. Knowing when to ask for help

Running a business isn’t always easy, and there may be times when you need to ask for support – especially if you’re trying to grow your business. Whether you need someone’s help to solve a problem, or to assist you with chores at home, don’t be afraid to ask for some support. Being able to ask for help when you need it is important and will stop you from getting bogged down in all the complications that can come from juggling both professional and personal life.

3. Good money sense

Having a good financial head is important to help stop your business from failing. From being the HR manager to the marketing executive and the accountant, people who run their own business will suddenly need to wear multiple hats to help it succeed. If you’re not confident with finances, there is outside help available to you to help you get a grip on your finances. It makes sense to have a finance broker on your side who can assist you with your funding and help to grow your business when you’re ready to expand. Finance is often seen as one of the most challenging parts of running a business – but it doesn’t have to be with the right support in place.

4. Being able to give back

Melinda Gates, co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and husband of Microsoft founder Bill, once summed up the importance of being able to give back in business:

“If you are successful, it is because somewhere, sometime, someone gave you a life or an idea that started you in the right direction. Remember also that you are indebted to life until you help some less fortunate person, just as you were helped.”

Remember how you got your break and try to help others in that position. You never know what opportunities you can create just by sharing your wisdom or giving someone the start they need to succeed.

There’s no magic formula to becoming a successful businesswoman, but there are some behaviours that you can adopt to help you get there. Gather inspiration from the achievements of other great female leaders and become your own amazing success story.
