The Real Deal
Brief overview of what you do:
As the creative director and founder of Neom, I essentially map out the blueprint for how the brand looks and is experienced, joining the dots across everything from packaging to the website to the way we talk to customers.
Can you describe your job in 3-5 words?
One crazy but brilliant ride!
What is the first thing you do when you get to work?
Make a coffee and walk round the office chatting with all the teams, checking how their weekends were and what fun stuff is on their agenda for the week.
What does a typical day at your desk look like?
People coming in and out! Meetings mainly. All departments wanting catch-ups and my opinion on so many little elements of the vision – from the consistency of a hand balm to the tone of a newsletter.
What’s been the best moment of your career so far?
Every Christmas is amazing, as we get a moment to sit back and reflect on the year we’ve had and how brilliant it has been. We are growing so much that it’s exciting every single day, but getting time to reflect at the end of the year is always great.
Your job – the good, the bad, the ugly:
Good: The excitement of working for a brand I really believe in – my baby that I’ve created from scratch!
Bad: Just as you get something right, the business changes and grows and you need to learn all over again.
Ugly: Our office. We’re looking to move very soon to a really beautiful wellbeing centre, as our current workplace is just not as lovely as we need it to be, but I’m impatient and can’t wait!
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Find people who are better than you. I love it when members of the team have better ideas and suggestions than me; it’s empowering.
What would you say to your twenty year old self with the benefit of hindsight?
This is going to take a lot longer than you think!
Who are your role models?
What social or political issues matter most to you?
I’m deeply concerned that, by 2020, the top four health related issues will be stress related. That’s scary and something we are aiming to combat. I believe we can really help to inspire women to lead naturally healthy lives. It starts with making time for our own mental wellbeing.
Complete this statement: I feel most powerful when wearing____ something comfortable.
My weekday wardrobe consists of: Black jeans, shirts, several gold necklaces, an oversized bag and a man coat.
My weekend wardrobe consists of: The same… but maybe a jumper instead!
What’s the last book you read?
The Journey by Brandon Bays, alongside Bush Falls by Jonathan Tropper. A strange mix but I loved them both.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Adventure of a Lifetime, Coldplay
What’s your favourite way to treat yourself?
A warm bath with Neom Tranquillity bath oil and foam, and an early night.
What can’t you leave the house without?
My phone and my dog, Harry Potter.
What would you take to a desert island?
